How To: Wear Corduroy

Until very recently, if someone said the word ‘Corduroy’ to me, I would have automatically thought of the blue, boot-leg cords that one of my girls wore on a shopping trip back when we were 12… and laughed!

But now, I think of cute cord mini skirts, jackets and baker boy hats (although I’ll never forget those blue cords haha)!

So why the transition?

I can thank multiple designers and fashion week runways for that, considering they’re the biggest inspo for setting trends ahead of the season.

Don’t get me wrong, corduroy will always have the same connotations of being an unsexy, primarily masculine fabric, but what we’ve been shown is that if you wear it the right way, you can make it look pretty damn cool!

So, here are a few ways to wear Corduroy now…

1) Trousers

Trousers are a great place to start. Just think high-waist and wide leg for a really flattering feel.

Mango Velvet Corduroy Trousers, £69.99
Zara Thick Corduroy Trousers, £39.99

2) Jacket

Go oversized, go slim fit, go cropped…wear a cord jacket however you want and you’re sure to look on point. Just team it with jeans, ankle boots and a turtle neck or a cute floral dress.

BDG Corduroy Jacket, £66.00
Boohoo Sally Slim Fit Borg Collar Jacket, £30.00

3) Skirts

Go mini, go coloured, go zip front, and team with your favourite tee and trainers or a chunky knit and ankle boots for some of the cutest looks this season.

Topshop MOTO Cord Zip Mini Skirt, £39.99
Stradivarius A Line Cord Mini Skirt, £17.99

3) Accessories
Not brave enough to wear cordoury clothing? Then try accessorising with it first! Think bakerboy hats in natural colours so you can wear with any outfit!

Brixton Baker Boy Hat, £45.99
